Blog Prompt 20 August 2009

Hi fellas-

Answer the prompt:

Imagery is an incredibly important element in literature. Which image from your "I am From" piece is the most memorable? Can you visualize it? Tell me about it using sensory details (sight, touch, sound, taste) and build upon your original image.

For example:

My original image was "eating dinner with my family".

The improved image is "all of us sitting around the heavy oak table like hungry birds on a wire. The voices of all in the family blended into a dull roar and I was unable to distinguish one Southern accent from another. Holli rounds the corner, a ruffled apron tied around her waist, carrying a steaming pot. The newsprint on the table was smooth to the touch and grew wet when she poured the Frogmore onto the table. Bright yellow sweet corn, red potatoes and blood-red crawfish filled the table from one end to the other and everyone grew quiet, their mouths filled with the bayou treat."

Choose any image from your "I am From" piece and flesh it out into something more! Plan to spend about 15 minutes on this exercise. I want to be able to hear it, feel it, see it and taste it when you're done describing your image to me.

  1. My most memerable piece from ''I Am From'' poem is where I was born. Yes, I can visualize it. Especially in the pictures. It sounded loud because it was loud. The second memerable piece from the ''I Am From'' poem was when my dad and I went hunting and fishing in the mountains. I can remember the smell of the dead fis and the beautiful site of the mountains.

  2. My image from the I am poem is all my family at the spring branding. My reformed image is all the family at the corrals, momma cows hollering for thier calves and the calves all at once replying back. I see my dad and uncle Loyd both on horses roping calves and draging them to the fire where me and my cousin Scotty are legging them with the intertube and Grampa Bill with the help of Randy are branding I smell the burning hide of the calves it's burning in my nostrils. Cousin Alvin or his wife Diana are checking for horns and putting the red horn eating paste. You get this stuff on your clothes and it will eat through them and burn the you know what out of you. After were done with the first pasture everyone goes to the ranch pickup where you can smell Grandma's freshbaked goat milk cookies. This is my image of the spring branding.

  5. My image from my pome I am From, is an over view of Hugo For the first paragraph. My image for the paragragh when I talk about my grandparents is vme as a child wanting to read all of the book on the shelf, me wanting to eat all the foods in there garden, me sitting quietly, listening to them tell me stories from back in the day. When I read the paragraph about my family,I think of a cold winter night, when the house is warm and cozy. There is a blizzard going on outside, my parents are sitting on the furniture while I am sitting on the ground with my dog. We are all watching t.v.. Those are three of my visions from my pome.

  6. My original line was "i am from guitars oil and gasoline" my new line is i am from the crisp smell of gitar strings from the sticky sweet smell of engine oil, from the lightheaded ness i get from smelling gasoline. from the sound a guitar makes when you pluck the strings in succession. From the eye burning toxic fumes that make you look like a sissy from crying too much. I am from a well oiled engine that runs smooth. i am from the rough edges of the sixth string to the smooth angel-like smootheness of the first string.I am from all of these but not all at the same time

  10. I really remember i said i am from food and that reminded me of all the delicious food that i have had. My favorite kind of food is pizza topped with extra cheese and pepperoni and that gives it just the perfect taste of spice and flavor. It needs to have enough grease to give it flavor but it cant have so much that you have it running down your arm. know i can't stand to eat onions unless they are on something.

  11. My old line was I am from fresno, California. My new line is I am from the big and most visited state in america, Fresno, California. California is the greatest state ever because its right next to the beach, it is always warm and sunny, and most of the movie stars live there.
